First Assignment: Intro to Concept Art

Character Concept: Pinocchio

Take any major character from the story of Pinocchio (movie or book) and do a concept drawing of your take on that character.

- Your version of Pinocchio can take place in any time period or place.

- Every time and place has distinguishing characteristics that let an audience know when and where they are- for example, how do we know, when we watch a film, that we are in Asia, Europe, or America, and how do we know what time period we are in. These things are evident in clothing, materials and hair styles when it comes to characters.

- Do some visual research and use that research to find ways to make your ideas more exciting, interesting, and believable.

- The key goal for any concept artist is Believability in that world.
What to bring with you on Wednesday Evening:

- Black and White Character concept drawing
- Research images of your time and place/setting
- Drawing supplies: LOTS of paper, big, dark pencils, Wacom tablet if you have one.
